I haven’t cried yet! I’m not holding back, the tears just aren’t there — yet. But, I know it’s coming. Last night my 18-year-old son called me from college. He was very much invested in this, his second vote (he voted in the primary) and his first ever presidential election. The same was true for my 19-year-old. I could hear the heartbreak in their voices. My 19-year-old when he came in to tell me Trump had 266 electoral votes. My 18-year-old when he finally called me last night. He spoke to his daddy earlier in the day. We had not spoken until that call perhaps because we knew it was going to be emotional for us. He said he wanted this for (in honor of) his Granny (my mother who passed in 2022 at the age of 95) and Berthday (my 79-year-old mother-in-law, who lives with us) and for me and his daddy because we didn’t grow up with that. Then he said the sweetest, most heart-wrenching thing ever: “I wanted this! I wanted this for Brea (his little sister. She’s 15). I wanted her to have this. For eight years I had Obama. I wanted her to have this, but she’ll get it. We’re not giving up! And he won’t!

Oh, that is so heartbreaking! And yes, you and him won't give up. We can't. But we can rest for a while first.
